Microsoft Project provides many options for resolving overallocation at the Project, Task, Resource and Assignment levels of the Microsoft Project Data Model. In this Milestone Minute we will focus on the assignment level of the data model through the Assignment Delay field.
In the following illustration, Bradley Beck and Wendy Wheeler are overallocated as they are both assigned to Tasks A and B, and Tasks C and D during the same time period:
To resolve the overallocation through the Assignment Delay field, begin by navigating to the View tab, Split View group, and select Details as shown in the following illustration:
Select a task for assignment delay, such as Task C in this example, and then click anywhere in the Details pane to activate the Details pane. Then, from the Format tab, Details group, select Schedule as shown in the following illustration:
From the Task Form view, Schedule details, enter an Assignment Delay, click OK and all overallocation is resolved as shown in the following illustration:
