By default, the option Updating task status updates resource status is selected in Microsoft Project. For example, when a % Complete value is entered, Microsoft Project will automatically enter a % Work Complete value when work is scheduled during the % Complete period as shown in the following illustration:
If, in this example, a % Work Complete value had been entered, Microsoft Project would have automatically entered a % Complete value.
When the option Updating task status updates resource status is not selected, the percent complete fields may be updated independently of one another. For example, when you enter a % Complete value, Microsoft Project will not enter a % Work Complete value when work is scheduled during the % Complete period as shown in the following illustration:
Please note; however, that regardless of the option setting, when 0% or 100% is entered in either percent complete field, Microsoft Project will change the other percent complete field to match!
